Hi All!

I am now ready to accept bookings for Manchester Sparkle 2017!

Weston Halls is a student block of single rooms attached to the Pendulum hotel and conference centre. The room facilities are basic, but include an en-suite shower room and, being attached to the hotel, all the services are available.

I have a contract with an initial allocation of 60 rooms at Weston Halls.

You can now complete payment on your reserved room, or pay in full for a new booking.

The Weston Halls management have decided that they will offer rooms for Manchester Pride Big Weekend direct to individuals at the same rates they are offering to me, and so I will NOT after all be offering a booking service for Manchester Pride.

Sparkle 2017 runs from 7th to 9th July. The Sparkle Fringe runs from 1st to 7th July.

I have an agreement with The Weston Halls management for Sparkle 2017 to offer individual rooms.

I am now ready to accept full payments for these rooms currently based on a rate of £31 per person per night.

This rate will increase over the next few weeks, up to £35 per night in early June.

If you paid a deposit, you should by now have received a Deposit Confirmation Code, which will enable you to complete your booking at the original price.

Completion payments for the weekend will be required by Jun 25th. Payment for fringe dates will be required by Jun 10th.

Manchester Pride

Manchester Pride Big Weekend runs over the August bank holiday, which is 25th - 28th August in 2017.

The Weston Halls management team Prodigy Living will happily take your booking at £35 per night (price correct for March).

Weston Halls Rooms

These rooms are pretty basic, with a single bed, desk, wardrobe, shower, toilet.

The rooms will be ready for occupation with bedding and towels, but there will be no additional regular housekeeping over the weekend. Request additional towels or similar from the 24-hour manned reception.

The rooms are arranged in blocks of 8, each block sharing a kitchen and sitting room.

There is no television or coffee making facility in the rooms, but last year we arranged coffee in the communial kitchens. If you wish to use the kitchens for anything else, please bring your own crockery and cutlery.

I recommend that you bring your own make-up mirror and coathangers.

All rooms have power sockets and wired internet. Some of the rooms have access to the hotel wifi, which is free to use.

The main hotel is accessed though a short internal walkway, and all the Pendulum hotel facilities are available, including baggage drop-off, bars, restaurants, breakfast.

Terms and Notes

Is this officially Sparkle sponsored/sanctioned?

Nope. I'm basically organising it myself in cooperation with the halls management company Prodigy Living.

What guarantees are there?

This year, all payments will be secured through paypal business guarantees.

Moneys collected are deposited in Cambridge Transgender Group treasury account.

Rooms are released to me in batches from the Halls management company, and only sold if they are available.

Breakfast included?

No. You can separately arrange breakfast with the hotel, and I will send details to all customers closer to the event.

Alternatively, if there is enough interest, we may organise a continental cold cuts breakfast in one of the common room. Please register your interest when booking.

Of course, you can DIY in the common room if you bring some crockery, or I can recommend the nearby Retro Bar or Olive Delicatessen.

Who are you?

I am Gem Taylor, resident in Cambridge, and member of Cambridge TG Group, organising Cambridge Diamonds, a weekly meet-up social and self-help group.

I have "done" the last 5 Sparkles, and been helping as a volunteer on the day for the last 3.

I don't believe in spending £100 a night on a room I will barely see.

Refunds

If the deal somehow falls through, all moneys will be returned.

If you cancel your booking before June, your deposit payment will not be refundable.

If you cancel on or after June 1st, or paid the full amount initially, the full payment will not be refundable.

The room is transferable. Please notify my of the new name ASAP. You may change the specific nights or purchase additional nights up to July 1st.

Taxes?

I am not registered for business taxes. The difference in prices between the rates being charged by Prodigy Living and myself are minimal. If you feel that you can benefit from a tax registered receipt, please email and I will try to arrange this with David at Prodigy Living.

Cambridge Diamonds is in the process of registering as a charity, though this particular arrangement, in its current form, does not qualify for significant charitable tax breaks. This status will allow us to register for lower fees with Paypal, and accept full payments.

Insurance?

If your banking based travel insurance demands that you pay using their account, you may find that you are not covered. However, you will be individually registered in advance as hotel guests, so should be covered in most policy scenarios.

I, and the Weston Halls management, will do all we can to cooperate with any insurance claim you may need to make, but if it turns out that this deal is not covered by your insurer, we will resist any liability to refund if you do not attend.
