We've tried to collect together some links to people who can offer help with dressing, beauty, and other aspects of feminization - and included comments based on the experiences of Diamonds members where possible.
We'd love to expand this page, so please contact us at with new reviews or queries, or if you know somewhere that we've missed! Alternatively, post them on the tgcambs group!
Some of the organisations linked here cater specifically for transgender people, while others are more mainstream but also welcome t-girls.

Dressing advice, wigs and other TG assistance
Diamonds self help
Diamonds Cambridge (us!)Diamonds members who have been dressing for a long time or who have transitioned/are transitioning to their preferred gender are always happy to offer help, advice and practical tips on things such as make-up, dressing, where to buy clothes and so on. Some of our members occasionally get together for shopping trips, and we also hope it will also be possible to organise practical sessions at some of our meetings - if you have ideas for what would be helpful please let us know! Come along to one of our events, post on the forum or contact us, and someone will only be too pleased to help! |
Professional assistance
So you can charge for what we do??? Seriously, though, if you want TG-specific help with make-up, shopping, or other TG-related presentation issues, perhaps these professional experts can help.
Ginny's Trans G Salon, Cambridge Ginny offers a discete dressing service, makeup and style advice, as well as being a fully qualified hair dresser. She is happy to act as a personal shopper, provide clothing storage, and lots more. |
Wigs and hairdressing
In addition to Ginny's Trans G Salon (above), you could try these people:
Halo Hair Salon, Sawston. Their owner has specialist skills in wig fitting and cutting. They offer private appointments when the salon is closed and are keen to reach out to the transgender community.
Frobishers Wigs, Ipswich "The friendly service I've received over the years from Jean & Jo has been first class." - a member
Diane Hair International, Cobbles Yard, Grafton Centre, Cambridge A "centre of excellence" for hair styling and wigs. Our members' views: High priced wigs, overpriced "advice", and unexpected extras leave a poor impression. To be fair, reports show that Diane does appear to treat all her customers equally - regardless of gender persuasion. |
General beauty: facials, manicures, skin treatment, nails and more
Fancy a bit of personal primping? Well you have come to the right place. Actually, no, you will have to go somewhere else, but perhaps to one of the very fine establishments listed below?
Pink Butterfly Mobile Beauty Salon, Cambridge, St Ives, Somersham and surrounding area Diamonds member Susan holds a VTCT level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques from Cambridge Regional College and offers a range of reasonably priced beauty treatments including pedicure, manicure, nails, tinting, eyebrows, facials, make up, tanning and waxing. See her website at Pink Butterfly or talk to her at a Diamonds meeting! "Susan is wonderfully friendly and helpful and guaranteed trans-friendly - I would never have had the courage to go for treatment anywhere else but knowing Susan from Diamonds meetings made all the difference." Diamonds member, 2014
Bliss Beauty Salon, Sawston, Cambridge
Finn Jordan, Sussex Street, Cambridge |
Hair removal
Those of a delicate disposition should look away now... these people deal in pain, and they charge for it! The results look good though!
Waxing and threading
More painful than shaving, but lasts longer and gives less stubble. The beauty establishments listed above generally offer waxing and threading - visit their websites for more details!Laser hair removal
Painful and expensive, but ultimately very effective and long lasting, especially if you have dark hair and pale skin. The following mainstream centres also welcome t-girls, or you can just go in male mode - laser hair removal for men is becoming increasingly popular and mainstream so there's no reason for them to know that you're trans if you don't want to tell them!Cambridge Skin and Laser Clinic, Brooklands Avenue, Cambridge "Friendly and trans aware... I've been for treatment both before and after I began transitioning and have always been made to feel welcome and at ease" Diamonds member, 2014
The BodyLaser Clinic, Regent Street, Cambridge and Broadway, Peterborough |
Electrolysis
Slow, painful and expensive but again ultimately very effective and the hair won't come back in a hurry!
June Howard | June Howard is a member of the BIAE (British Institute and Association of Electrolysis) and offers transgender facial and SRS-preparation electrolysis. Contact her on 07779 465990 or junehoward2@sky.com; she is happy to provide advice and information on electrolysis. |
Iconic Health and Beauty, Castle Street, Cambridge. Formerly Janet Martin, the new owner still offers electrolysis as well as a wide range of other beauty treatments..
The Hair Removal Clinic, London Uses local anaesthetic injections to numb the area and reduce the pain. |
Voice feminisation
Christella Antoni, London "I have worked with her on my voice for over a year and have achieved my aims with ease. She is a very understanding and nice lady who I can fully recommend." Diamonds member, 2014 |
